Rodrigo Domínguez / Mariano Otero / Sergio Verdinelli - Borocotopo (August 27, 2021 Ears & Eyes Records)

This Alter Ego of Domínguez, BOROCOTOPO, allows the channeling of very particular music, very playful and somewhat innocent since BOROCOTOPO does not care about "what they will say". Diving into its musical depths, this group uses everything at its disposal: groove, simple melodies, atonalism, noise, etc. but always with a very high degree of interaction: BOROCOTOPO plays with his friends! BOROCOTOPO wants to share his first album with everyone!

The group was formed at the beginning of 2018, from the idea of making music that had the main components of groove, free improv, and singable melody, and also the exclusive use (for the first time in his career) of the alto sax as a lead instrument. Domínguez, Otero, and Verdinelli, have been playing together for many years, and have developed a very special language and rapport, but with this line-up, at some point, music began to emerge that seemed to come from elsewhere, that would not have worked the same in other context or other instrumentation. Then the name came up, which is a childish deformation (because that is how Rodrigo Domínguez understood it) of a cartoon character from the 1970s. It was clear that this music drew its vitality and innocence from that childhood and hence the use of “cartoon music” when describing aspects of this project.

In 2019 the trio toured several cities within Argentina, and on that tour, the group's repertoire and personality were consolidated. In some concerts, Ernesto Jodos and Sergio Wagner joined in, and they brought such vibrant colors to the trio that it was decided to invite them for the recording. The album was recorded in January 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was a photograph of that evolution. The music continues to evolve since then!
