Adam Teixeira TEXTURE Album Launch this Friday in central London

I am excited to share an album launch concert for my debut album TEXTURE this Friday 28th April, 2017 at Iklectik art lab  in central London

TEXTURE is an original drums/keyboards duo project of drummer, percussionist, composer Adam Teixeira featuring Chris Pruden on keyboards/synthesizers/piano. The hypnotic grooves, atmospheric synth landscapes and energetic improvisations explore a unique blend of folkloric rhythmic traditions stemming from African, Caribbean and Indian Classical roots with modern jazz and electronic influences.

The evening will also feature an exclusive exhibition "Stamps" from artist, illustrator IAIA who designed the album artwork for TEXTURE.

Playlist for Tom Ossana – The Thin Edge – April 26, 2017 MST 7:00 to 9:00p.m.

This CD continues my mission to showcase the bassoon in a jazz setting featuring the instrument’s expressive and improvisation abilities. Although I have experimented with pickups and e ects I had special interest in preserving and exploiting the acoustic sound of the bassoon on this recording.

Three of the selections are tributes to my parents (Harold & Kiki) whom both passed over the last 2 years. This CD pays homage to their support of my musical endeavors over the last 40 years.

“Michael Rabinowitz merits a place in jazz history...he’s evolved into an astonishingly forceful presence” —Neil Tesser, Critic’s Choice, Chicago Reader

Michael Rabinowitz – UNCHARTED WATERS:  Michael’s grand jazz bassoon playing on this vibrant CD release is joined by Nat Harris on guitar, Ruslan Khain on bass and Vince Ector doing drums, and let me tell you, folks – this SMOKES – it will be a true jazz adventure for listeners not accustomed to this often overlooked instrument (when it comes to jazz, anyway)… as I  listen to the intricate movements on “Harold’s Blues” (samples aren’t available yet; I’ll come back and link them in when I have them), I’m absolutely convinced that Michael is THE best jazz bassoon player on the planet (& I’ve listened to several of them), and each of the other players contribute to make this one of the most “alive” blues I’ve listened to (yet) in 2017!

The closer, “Calypso Joe”, is an original creation by Michael, and is a superb lead-out for this very entertaining album; decidedly Latin beat, as you might imagine from the title, but the energy on this one paints the bassoon in a whole different light than you’ve ever heard before.  My personal favorite of the nine songs offered up for your listening enjoyment is actually the title track, “Uncharted Waters”, another Rabinowitz original that will (simply) stun your ears; the “flow” on this piece alone merits the MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating I’m giving it… “EQ” (energy quotient) rating is 4.98. - Rotcod Zzaj  Aka Dick Metcalf

“He’s a hero” —Gunther Schuller

Trombonist, trumpeter, composer, and educator Nick Vayenas has been a mainstay on the music scene for the past 15 years. Based in New York City, Nick has worked in a variety of settings both as a sideman and leader. In 2009, Vayenas released his acclaimed debut album, 'Synesthesia', on drummer Kendrick Scott’s World Culture Music label. "A well conceived album and more than casually ambitious", wrote Nate Chinen of the New York Times.

The album featured some of the finest young musicians on the jazz scene today (Kendrick Scott - drums, Aaron Parks - piano, Matt Brewer - bass, Gretchen Parlato - voice, and Patrick Cornelius - alto sax). In 2012, he returned with his sophomore release, 'Nick Vayenas', on Whirlwind Recordings.

The recording displayed his astonishing breadth of skills on trombone, trumpet, and vocals as well as his unique composing and arranging style. "One of the most impressive of Whirlwind issues, showcasing a multi-talented individual likely to appeal to a wide constituency of jazz fans, 4 stars", said Jazz Journal.

Nick’s latest album, 'Flow Motion' features a set of all original compositions written by Nick and performed by a stellar line-up of musicians. Joining Nick is his fellow Thelonious Monk Institute class member Dayna Stephens on tenor sax, Cornelius on alto, pianist Glenn Zaleski, bassist Peter Slavov, and drummer Colin Stranahan. The band performs brilliantly, providing expressive interpretations of Nicks melodic modern jazz compositions.

Red Planet with Bill Carrothers (SHIFTING PARADIGM RECORDS 2017)

“Carrothers’ feathery textures go nicely with the wave of effects Dean Magraw wrings from his guitar…bassist Chris Bates and drummer Jay Epstein spin the eruptions with aplomb.” – Star Tribune

In fall 2015, One of the area’s most innovative musical trios joined forces with one of the world’s most creative pianists at Creation Audio, recording their magnificent mayhem in front of a small live audience. Now the final product, Red Planet With Bill Carrothers, is ready for delivery, with a CD Release celebration over two nights in the Dunsmore Room at Crooners Lounge in suburban Minneapolis.

Dean Magraw, Chris Bates, and Jay Epstein–was described by the Artists Quarter as “creative jazz for the 21st Century, inviting you to put one ear on the launching pad of neo-bop Trane/Hendrix/Monk burn, and your other ear on the celestial weightlessness from the musical cosmos.” Searching the jazz galaxy for the past 15+ years, Red Planet, according to leader Dean, was the brainchild of Jay Epstein.  Over the years, Magraw notes that the trio has “gotten into more original music, as well as continuing to expand on the deep repertoire of John Coltrane, and  always showing some intense interest on expanding our Monk repertoire.” Red Planet released their debut recording, Space Dust, in 2011. Most recently they have appeared at the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, Jazz at Studio Z, Vieux.

Avishai Cohen - Cross My Palm With Silver (ECM 2017)

A year after his impressionistic, critically-lauded ECM debut Into The Silence, trumpeter Avishai Cohen’s Cross My Palm With Silver introduces a programme of new pieces which put the focus on the ensemble, on teamwork, with a quartet of the highest calibre. The adroit, almost telepathic interplay among the musicians allows Avishai Cohen to soar, making it clear why he is one of the most talked-about jazz musicians on the contemporary scene. “All of these people together are my dream team”, says the charismatic trumpeter of fellow players Yonathan Avishai, Barak Mori and Nasheet Waits, who share his sense for daring improvisation and his feeling for structure. “I feel we’re in a perfect place with the balance. It’s open and there’s so much room for the improvisation to take the music any place we can. At the same time the composition is very specific and the vibe is very direct and thought about.” As with Into The Silence, Cross My Palm With Silver was produced by Manfred Eicher at Studios La Buissonne in the south of France. It is issued on the eve of a major European tour, with concerts in France, Italy, Spain, Luxembourg, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands.
