Benjamin Deschamps, saxophonist and composer presents the new music collective No Codes. The album was released on September 7th 2018

Following the release of his second record Demi-Nuit in 2017, Benjamin – who was named Révélation Radio-Canada Jazz 2017-2018 – puts together the music collective No Codes.

The quartet, made up of rising star canadian saxophonist Benjamin Deschamps (alto sax), highly acclaimed veteran Frank Lozano (tenor sax), Sébastien Pellerin (bass) and Louis-Vincent Hamel (drums), takes its inspiration freely from the standards of the great American song book to recreate new compositions.

After presenting his two first records all around Canada and being nominated for the Halifax Jazz Festival TD Rising Star award and the Montreal Internation Jazz Festival TD Grand Award, Deschamps is presenting us this new project with an urge of performing.

Borrowing from the rhythms and the colours from the Andes, Motown or even Free Jazz, No Codes offers a musical research inspired from the Jazz tradition without actually copying it in its form.

The band, without any instrumental or harmonic support, bets on its interaction, its listening and its spontaneity. The record No Codes is the product of a collective work of research and a desire to explore and to push the boundaries of music. This is one of the last record to be ever recorded in the mythical Studio 12 in Montreal's CBC and they achieved to capture a very intimate sound worthy of the golden years of the great jazz recordings.

Louis Beaudoin-de la Sablonnière, Éric Normand, Louis-Vincent Hamel - Brûlez les meubles (2018)

Un rare album de jazz improvisé, ci-produit avec Circum-disc (France).

Le trio Brûlez les meubles est la réunion de trois musiciens aux parcours fort divergeants autour du désir de créer un trio de guitare jazz qui s'iinscrit de façon oblique dans l'histoire du genre. Nourrissant des filliations esthétiques avec de nombreux précurseurs, de Jim Hall à Sonny Sharrock en passant par Abercrombie ou Bill Frisell, le trio se démarque par une indiférence marquée pour les progession harmoniques habtituelles du jazz comme pour les mouvances répétitives et prévilégie des lignes mélodiques à l'harmonie indéfinie (harmolodie?) et des riffs inciisifs.
