Julien Stella / Bastien Weeger - NOSAX NOCLAR Rëd Sisters (September 17, 2021 Yolk Records)

Bastien Weeger and Julien Stella have found with this project a scope they didn’t expect to be so large at the beginning. Each piece, each repertoire is an opportunity to explore the art of dialogue as a duet. Two blowers whirl around, accompanying each other.

The band is able to reach anybody’s attention for their altogether simple and powerful moving stories. Bastien Weeger and Julien Stella, more humble than they should be, are rich in a musical culture without boundaries.

Kahmsïn, their first album, was inspired by Celtic (Ireland), Berber or Balkan music traditions to compose freely, with their own material. Rëd Sisters, their second album, continues to reclaim global roots, Armenia too.

NoSax NoClar album Rëd Sisters was recorded in May 2021 at Peninsula Studios in Sarzeau (France).

This second album comforts the promises overheard in Kahmsïn and opens to new paths for this visionary duo. The two pieces with their unusual set up, have no other choice than to reinvent their music, looking for new possibilities; tones, harmonies and rhythm.

Relentlessly searching for new ways to evolve, they use only acoustic sources, constantly changing roles, instruments (alto and sopranos saxophones, bass clarinet et clarinet) textures, parts, solos, all intertwined together, making ever-changing atmospheres that highlight each tracks in their own very personal way. Their pirouettes occupy the field, without a safety net, almost making us forget that there are only the two of them playing.

2020 winner of Jazz Migration project, led by the AJC network which identifies young talents from today's jazz scene, NoSax NoClar is undoubtedly one of the revelations of the year!

Daniel Erdmann & Stéphane Payen - Bricabracomaniacs (2021 Yolk Records)

This new collaboration allows the two saxophonists to polish their speech and create this duo recorded at the National Center for Musical Creation in Reims (Césaré). The repertoire mixes personal compositions and references to melodists who have marked their paths (J.S. Bach, Steve Argüelles, Doug Hammond ...). This selection reflects their bric-a-brac, a polymorphous landscape made of multiple insularities.

Daniel Erdmann and Stéphane Payen met in 2000 in Berlin during a jam session with guitarist/drummer John Schröder. But it’s only in 2012 that they first collaborated and formed Insel Musik (a quintet with Matyas Szandaï on doublebass, Rafaël Koerner and Julien Chamla on drumsets). In 2014, they also took part in the recording of the nonet lead by American saxophonist and composer Joe Rosenberg (together with Edward Perraud, Arnaud Cuisinier, Bruno Angelini, Robin Fincker ...).

In addition to this duo, Stéphane Payen currently performs with The Workshop, Thôt (whose return to the stage is imminent), Ingrid Laubrock, Guillaume Orti, Alban Darche's Orphicube, the Nautilis ensemble, etc... Daniel Erdmann currently performs with Velvet Revolution, Das Kapital, Vincent Courtois ... He received the European Musician of the Year 2019 award from the Académie du Jazz and is the winner of the SWR Jazzpreis 2020.

Alban Darche & L'Orphicube - The Atomic Flonflons (YOLK RECORDS 2018)

Jozef Dumoulin & Orca Noise Unit - A Beginner's Guide to Diving and Flying (YOLK RECORDS 2018)

"Orca Noise Unit is based on an anagram of —oneironautics—, which refers to the ability to travel within a dream on a conscious basis. Those who have already kept a dream journal know what it feels like to go back and read over older parts. Some dream accounts have a lot of details, others evoke not much more than just a vibe. Some can be read like a full story, whereas others have no beginning, or no end, or neither. Sometimes we were genuinely lucid at the moment of the dream - or at least had a clear perception of things - whereas at other moments we were totally immersed in the projected reality.

But together the stories always make sense in a very particular way that is difficult to describe. When I was putting this record together I understood at some point that this was the perfect image for what I was trying to do. The feeling I got when listening to the whole of the final versions of the songs was very similar to the one I get when I’m dealing with my own dream world and my dream journal.

This was a new sensation for me. I let it be the guide for the final adjustments of the music and I’m very happy and excited to have been able to turn that atmosphere into a musical form.”

“This record is dedicated to the loving memory of my father, Jacques Dumoulin.”

Jean-Christophe Cholet / Alban Darche / Mathias Rüegg & Grand Ensemble - Le Tombeau de Poulenc (YOLK RECORDS 2018)

A PROPOS DU DISQUE

« IL NE S'AGIT PAS DE PROLONGER LE TRAVAIL DE FRANCIS POULENC NI MÊME D'UTILISER SES CODES ET SES COULEURS, MAIS DE VÉRITABLEMENT INVENTER UNE ŒUVRE ORIGINALE QUI PUISE SON INSPIRATION DANS L'ÉCOUTE DE CELLE DE POULENC. »
