Debut album ''Interchange'' by the Floris Kappeyne Trio (CHALLENGE RECORDS 2017)

We are proud to announce this young talented Dutch trio's debut album, Interchange. The album is out now!

The Floris Kappeyne Trio was set up in 2015 by the pianist. In the past two years, the trio consisting of separate Prinses Christina Concours winners (2012) has made audiences smile with their witty arrangements of old jazz standards. Next to winning the Prinses Christina Concours they are winners of the Gigstarter Talent Award 2016. This prize is part of the of the yearly Red Light District Jazz festival, Amsterdam

During the last year, the trio has worked on achieving an authentic conception by combining the classic sound of the McCoy Tyner trio from the sixties with Senegalese sabar rhythms and abstract ideas from modern classical music. The result is presented on this debut-album consisting solely of original compositions.

Black Motor - Branches (KUDOS RECORDS 2017)

"A truly astonishing record. Fire burning. Instant classic!" Andreas Müller, Deutschlandradio Kultur

Introspective fire music from Black Motor, one of the best kept secrets in the Finnish scene. Powerful free music brimming with energy, melodic innovation, and a strong sense of unity within the trio. Long-time members bassist Ville Rauhala and drummer Simo Laihonen are joined here by sax man Tane Kannisto (previously known from Sound And Fury) to deliver a strong musical statement, and a convincing next step for Black Motor. Especially recommended for listeners with a taste for melodic free music, such as Art Ensemble of Chicago, Anthony Braxton, and Archie Shepp, to mention but a few.

LP comes with free digital download including a bonus track.

Fabian Almazan & Rhizome - Alcanza (BIOPHILIA RECORDS 2017)

Alcanza (Spanish for “reach”) is a nine movement suite of music that deals with those brief moments in our lives in which within a blink of an eye, everything changes- or at least gives us a remarkable new perception of our condition. It also deals with the process of finding our own path as we go from childhood into adulthood; reflecting the beauty, frustrations and paradoxes of modern-day life and not giving up on reaching for everything in life that brings us joy and love.” -Fabian Almazan

“Alcanza” by Fabian Almazan has been made possible with support from Chamber Music America’s 2014 New Jazz Works: Commissioning and Ensemble Development program funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

Oded Tzur - Translator's Note (ENJA RECORDS 2017)

After being released in Japan and South Africa earlier this year, Translator's Note, Oded's second album on Enja Records, is now available worldwide.

With NOWHERE, Ouriel Ellert gives us, at last, his own music, both electric and subtle. Here is a trio that oscillates between modern jazz, improvisation and grooves and moods influenced by rock and electro. He is accompanied by his gifted companions and friends Martin Wangermée on drums and Anthony Jambon on the guitar.

Yosvany Terry & Baptiste Trotignon - Ancestral Memories (OKEH / SONY MUSIC 2017)

“This is a special opportunity to express my grandmother’s Haitian heritage with people who speak the same language.”  —Yosvany Terry

With grant support from the French-American Jazz Exchange Program, Cuban-American saxophonist Yosvany Terry and French pianist Baptiste Trotignon present a unique and exciting program inspired by the rich and diverse musical traditions that emerged from the African Diaspora in the United States and former French colonies in the Americas. Named Ancestral Memories, the project captures the rhythms, melodies, and harmonies of the Caribbean, New Orleans and French Louisiana, re-imagined through 21st century aesthetics and a jazz sensibility.

Ancestral Memories also comprises Terry’s longtime rhythm section of his brother, bassist Yunior Terry and Power House drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts, the most influential drummer of his generation. The quartet will toured the US in the Fall of 2015 and in France during June 2016.

Nominated for a Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album, New Throned King, Yosvany Terry’s most recent album, was based on a similar concept and seamlessly blended modern jazz with the ceremonial music of the West African and Cuban Arara culture.

Entertainment Cruise Productions Announces 10 Year Partnership with Vail Jazz

The Jazz Cruise and Blue Note At Sea Will Serve as the Presenting Sponsors of the 2017 Vail Jazz @ Vail Square series.

Two of North America's preeminent jazz festival producers - the Vail Jazz Foundation and Entertainment Cruise Productions - celebrate 10 years of partnership with the announcement that The Jazz Cruise and Blue Note At Sea will serve as the Presenting Sponsors of the 2017 Vail Jazz @ Vail Square series. The 23rd annual presentation of the Vail Jazz Festival will feature over 70 performances between June 9 - September 4, 2017, and Vail Jazz @ Vail Square serves as the Festival's summer-long, flagship series, showcasing the genre's most prolific talent week after week.

The nine-week series is held in the enchanting Bavarian-inspired village of Lionshead, situated at the base of Vail Mountain. In similar fashion, The Jazz Cruise and Blue Note At Sea will sail on the top-rated luxury cruise ship, Celebrity Summit, to showcase the world's most celebrated jazz musicians in unparalleled venues.

The 2017 Vail Jazz @ Vail Square series is a world tour of jazz music's past and present, kicking off Texas roadhouse-style with Marcia Ball (July 6), then hopping over the Gulf of Mexico to New Orleans for a musical gumbo of big band jazz, Caribbean, classical, pop, blues and R&B with Butler, Bernstein & the Hot 9 (July 13). Frank Vignola's Hot Club of France Tribute Band will conjure the intoxicating sounds of Gypsy jazz and the music's patriarch, Django Reinhardt (July 20), punctuated by the Afro-Cuban explosion, Cubanismo! (August 10), and international flair of Brazilian samba delivered by Grammy-winner Eliane Elias (August 17). Other highlights of the series include appearances by Grammy-nominee Rene Marie & Experiment In Truth (August 3), Joey DeFrancesco & the People (August 24) and a specially-curated presentation by Artistic Director Howard Stone: Ella and Louis, Together Again - featuring Carmen Bradford and Byron Stripling. Recounting the seminal recordings of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, the show will celebrate the best-loved duo's most cherished numbers (July 27).

Vail Jazz has found not just a kindred spirit in Entertainment Cruise Productions, but a treasured friend and partner. The organizations share a focus on creating unique listening experiences for passionate jazz fans, as well as a similar taste in artistic excellence (Vail Jazz Party House Band members John Clayton, Jeff Clayton, Terell Stafford, Wycliffe Gordon, Bill Cunliffe and Lewis Nash all appeared as featured performers on the 2017 Jazz Cruise). Jazz fans from coast to coast appreciate the alignment between the organizations. "Every year, I bump into more and more Vail Jazz Festival goers on The Jazz Cruise," says Vail Jazz Development Director Owen Hutchinson, "and likewise for seafarers coming to the mountains in the summer!"
