Mephiti - Mephiti (EL NEGOCITO RECORDS 2018)

For his band Mephiti, Bogaerts can depend on guitarists Bert Cools and Ruben Machtelinckx, two exponents of a generation of string adepts who have worked themselves beyond the classic examples that elaborate on the blues. The sharpness of Bert Cools, on semi-acoustic and electric guitar, and the thoughtful and recognizable playing of Machtelinckx (electric) form a stream of dreamy, lyrical sounds, with the occasional strong outburst. Complemented with the klanklės handled by Lithuanian musician Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė, it becomes a thick varied abundance, where regularly hints of folk traditions pour through. The rustling game of drummer Stijn Cools gives it all a wayward edge.

Augusto Pirodda - Kosmima (EL NEGOCITO RECORDS 2018)

Augusto Pirodda plays solo, to the rhythm of his piano, and makes this intensely poetic and fascinating journey. He constantly searches for new ideas, avoids stereotypes and stylistic barriers. Like a tightrope walker, he moves effortlessly between jazz and free improvisation.

Augusto Pirodda is known from his trio with Gary Peacock and Paul Motion and his quartet with Ben Sluijs, Marek Patrman and Manolo Cabras.

Charles Gayle / Giovani Barcella / Manolo Cabras - Live in Belgium (EL NEGOCITO RECORDS 2017)

Charles Gayle remains a living embody and voice of the great African American tradition; his sincerity and intensity are recognized as unique and absolutely dazzling, live and on a recording. Each concert Gayle is the continuation of the great tradition that can still be called "free." However not in the sense of the "free jazz" some people still speak of. Gayles mastery of that tradition is confirmed on his solo and pianowork.

After being invited to Belgium by el NEGOCITO Records for the Citadelic Festival in 2012, the Italian drummer Giovanni Barcella (Marshall Allen, Arthur Doyle, Bobby Few, J.J. Avenel) organized three tours through Italy and Belgium, with the Italian double bass player Manolo Cabras. The meeting of minds was immediate, the musical coesion and respect for each another reason to keep on playing and releasing this live album.

"They'd stop to hear a song, but I'm not playing songs. What I hear is the traffic. Everybody in New York hears it, but it's really vivid in my head. Horns and children and birds, too – I hear them so clearly, they hit me so hard. The subway roar, the jackhammers. Not that they're so loud but they stay there. The trucks and the sirens and the screeching and the hollering and the brakes, all that jagged movement, the Arggghhhh!" Jean Claude Charles Gayle (US) about him playing on the streets of NY.

Les Chroniques de l'Inutile - Virgule (EL NEGOCITO RECORDS 2017)

"Virgule" is the result of Les Chroniques de l'Inutile growing as a septet. This new set of pieces, very "song-like", wild in some moments, surprisingly gentle and peaceful in others, celebrates the present moment and reminds the importance of punctuation.

(FR)
"Virgule" est le disque du groupe "Les Chroniques de l'Inutile" devenu un septet. Cet ensemble de nouveaux morceaux parfois sauvages ou tout à coup étonnamment paisibles, célèbre l'instant présent et témoigne de l'importance de la ponctuation.

"There's a strange poetry to the music of Les Chroniques de l'Inutile. One moment, the septet is deep into a passage of slowly mutating post-jazz guitar melodicism, only to have its developing shape obliterated by bursts of wind instrument harmonies. Then there are other times when the clear path of a straight-forward modern jazz piece is muddied by a sudden disassembly into the random motion of free jazz.

Each piece of Virgule suggests a structural intent, and yet for every instance of cadential familiarity and alliterative effect, the sextet breaks things down—often in ways that contradict with patterns and alternative structures all their own. This album is an endless source of intrigue."

Moker - Ladder (2016) el NEGOCITO Records

For fifteen years now Moker is creating adventurous jazz and impro whilst the "hammer" (Moker = Dutch for smithy hammer) stands as a symbol of the creative force of its five musical blacksmiths. With Ghent as their base camp and after four cd productions, now's the time for their fifth album: Ladder !!!

Ladder incorporates the full spectrum of musical luggage and language which this band managed to collect on its path and it's the result of a working process in which Moker tried, once more, to stay off the beaten tracks...

The way the music was concipiated, from the recording process to the chosen instrumentarium all resulted in a caleidoscopic, though entirely authentic and characteristic sound, full of references to timeless and inspiring musical heroes. Esthetically their journey passes through all kinds of spaces and sub-genres: 70's psychedelica, jazz, krautrock and afro as well as acoustic songs, minimal music, fanfaresque and electronic scapes.

15 years of Moker, 15 tracks which are forged into an exotic sound adventure full of fantasy, without restrictions or taboos and with a powerfull, positive and constructive musical vision.
