HOW NOISY ARE THE ROOMS? represent an extremely provocative view of creative anarchy. Concentrated energy from three components that constantly run against each other puts the listener in the state of a pinball machine action: Mercilessly tossed back and forth, never comes to a rest, always at all points at the same time: Noise meets Trip-Hop meets Jazz!

HOW NOISY ARE THE ROOMS? are Berlin based vocal maniac Almut Kühne who is a classically trained singer and piano player, Swiss turntable wizard Joke Lanz well known for his Sudden Infant Noise-Rock project and Austrian drum-magician Alfred Vogel who is the driving force behind profiled Bezau Beatz festival. These three extremists hit it off right away without compromise!

A soulful voice seemingly evoking distant cultures, a labyrinth full of epileptic sounds, and a vigorous ritualistic percussion, these are the ingredients of HNATR. Sweet dreams are called chaos! A wonderful chaos in itself!

John Schröder is a multiinstrumentalist and kind of a Free Jazz Godfather from Berlin. No matter if he is playing drums for Nils Wogram or guitar for Erdmann 3000, nor piano in his trio – he is always on the edge of artistry! In this certain trio, John is featured on 3 instruments which he is playing simultaneously. So the band sometimes sounds like a quartet or even quintet. Wolfgang Zwiauer on bass is probably one of the most desired musicians in Switzerland and together with Alfred Vogel the two men lay down serious multi-time layered grooves. 

Their second album POWWOW!!! will be released in Jan 2019 (Boomslang Records / distributed by Galileo Music GmbH.

Along comes 12 tracks monthly as a digital release starting November 2018 at this very place since the 3 doctores recorded so much music in the last 3 years which they like to share with you.

We think about the world or not. Norbert Mayer the poet speaks out what needs to be said, sometimes in Bregenzerwald dialect, but always with german and english counter parts. What you don´t understand is catched up by the drums of Alfred Vogel and floored by the Tuba of Joe Bär ... humorous, serious, gentle, dense, and solid as a rock. Anyway improvised. In the moment. Spoken word meets an alpine rhythm section. You may laugh or cry. It doesn´t make a difference.

Ronny Graupe / Laura Schuler / Alfred Vogel - Kwestia (BOOMSLANG RECORDS May 18, 2018)

KWESTIA is a band which invites you the listener to witness it´s progress. Due to different domestic places (an austrian alpine village named Bezau, the swiss city of Bern and Germany´s Berlin - let´s call it the golden triangle of Bs ...) the band meets in bigger intervals to record and tour and let you be part of how things are moving on ... therefore we choose bandcamp as a plattform where new tracks will be added as soon as they are available. 

Ronny Graupe´s work as a guitar player and writer is well recorded and demonstrates the fresh attitude of improvisers of the European Jazz Scene. His collaboration with bands like Hyper Active Kid (now Gropper / Graupe / Lillinger), Yellow Bird or Grand Seniors like Rolf Kühn a.m.o. proof him as a highly skilled virtuoso as well as a great composer of modern music.

Laura Schuler a former student of Graupe from the Bern Jazz School is a sensitive and highly creative string player and matches here with a wonderful light- and brightness between the dense and complex rhythms. Besides active solowork and bigger newmusic ensembles Schuler made herself a name also due to her collaboration with Graupe in a Band named Aberratio Ictus. She covers both worlds - the classic and jazz - with ease.

On drums the initiator of this project Alfred Vogel shows again his ability to drive crazy and hard as well as to fit in with sensitive brush work when the music longs for.

The compositions (for now mainly by Graupe) show an incredible matured songwriting and advanced structure. Despite of it´s complexity this music and by the way bassless trio sounds surprisingly poetic, dreamy and lightfeathered. Multiple timelayers and pulses delivered by all of the three are topped with deep sense of melody and harmony. If there is a category that might fit the concept it would be creative improvised music. And then there is a track like Latarnik with a quite poppy head.

But be aware it would change and progress ... to where?

In the modern music market artists might have more questions than ever. One question is, where their music can go to and how it will be received in a fastforward moving time ... therefor the given name is the polish word KWESTIA - which stands for the word QUESTION.

In their own words: "We don´t know where this project will lead us to. All we know is that it is wonderful music and that we played our hearts out on the recording session. We want to share it now with an interested audience and listener and hope to go out and play live ...!"

Lucien Dubuis / Barry Guy / Alfred Vogel - Heavy Metal Rabbit (2016)

Black is the colour of the rabbit that is being chased across the field. Nimbly, swiftly and rapidly is he changing his directions, steered by a navigation system that is musically fed by three individualistic musicians who, according to themselves, have finally found each other. Lucien Dubuis and Barry Guy have crossed their paths years ago and already back then realized that there was a special spark. It must have been the 10 hour drive from Poland to Vorarlberg, the most western part of Austria, in November 2014 that led to the brilliant idea to form a band. For some time now, Dubuis and Vogel share an extremely fertile playing field (HANG EM HIGH as Duo FREIWILD) where they, according to their message, find themselves like two brothers in spirit. Hence the pleasure of supplementing the team with the legendary men of low tones, Barry Guy is even bigger. 

Already from the first note we could sense that certain something, a special Swing & Groove, states a very enthusiastic Vogel and by listening to their debut feature HEAVY METAL RABBIT (Boomslang Records, Feb 2016) you can downright hear their joy of playing. Yet this album shows to be strikingly structured despite all its freestyle components. Poetic and excessive can this piece of music be characterized and from time to time a very unconventional and headstrong humour stands out. Rumour has it, that Barry Guy has seen a METAL RABBIT hopping across him on his way to the studio. The word HEAVY came as the logical outcome. But apparently no rodent has been harmed - in fact, quite the contrary: this band is as vitalizing as a 100 meter sprint across a field of carrots.
