Alessandro Galati / Palle Danielsson / Peter Erskine - Traction Avant special edition (The Complete Sessions) January 2022 JAzZMUD

I inaugurate this new year with the release of an album in which I have inserted several new songs found while listening to the original tapes of a studio session that has brought a lot of luck to my career, allowing my music to be known all over the world.

After a few days of careful listening, I chose eight unreleased tracks, adding them to those originally contained in the Traction Avant CD.

The result is a double album in which the atmosphere is incredibly magical: my compositions, standards and free improvisations alternate in a new balance that I hope will meet the taste of many old and new fans.

Christina von Bülow - On the Brink of a Love Song (STORYVILLE RECORDS 2018)

”My heartfelt thanks to Mr Lee Konitz, who has been a constant inspiration throughout my musical career. This album is a reflection of this inspiration - I owe a lot to this legendary alto player and master of improvisation."

The Danish alto saxophonist Christina von Bülow has created a very special trio with two jazz masters in their own right: The Swedish bassist Palle Danielsson and the American drummer Eliot Zigmund. Together, they pick up standards from the great songbooks of jazz and make them their unique own creations; like birds singing, never quite repeating the same sound. The music is very inspired by Lee Konitz with a focus on improvisation, intuition and interplay. Quite a few of the tracks on the album is Christinas take on new themes for old standards.

Thomas Clausen, writer of the liner notes, explains: “The present CD is all about this element of variation. But also about being natural, playing melodically. And it’s an album about interplay! Every bar these musicians play breathe this truth. Some tunes are straight standards. And the presentation of the melody is sometimes straight, as we know it. But it is varied all the time and never feels repetitive.”

What makes the new album special is a feeling of a collective spirit throughout. Christina is the main soloist, but she is always giving herself time to breathe and making pauses in her solos and thus room for the other instruments."

Jesper Løvdal, Mathias Landaeus & Bob Gullotti (feat. Palle Danielsson) - Very Well Vol. 1 (2016)

Very Well Vol. 1 is the first release in a series from Jesper Løvdal, exploring the quartet format.

Very Well Vol. 1 brings together the best from two worlds and is a unique meeting of bass player Palle Danielsson (S) and drummer Bob Gullotti (US). The release sets new standards for the meeting between American jazz and the Scandinavian folk inspired music and melodic improvisation.

Saxophone player Jesper Løvdal and pianist Mathias Landæus have composed the music exept the beautiful and rarely recorded tune, I Get Along Without You Very Well, best known from the 1954 Chet Baker recording. Compositions and improvisations are woven together to a whole where borders are dissolved and the moorings that holds the art, is caped. The open sky awaits the listener on Very Well Vol. 1 whose titles all circles around the subject freedom.

Palle Danielsson is the personification of Scandinavian jazz and has created a personal bass sound that has been the basis of a number of world-known bands, amongst them the Keith Jarret European Quartet. Since the beginning of his career in the 1960s he has played with among others Bill Evans and Elvin Jones, and has been a unifying musical force in Scandinavia.

Bob Gullotti have through 40 years in the band The Fringe together with George Garzone and John Lockwood, cultivated a group sound, energy and philosophy that is one of the most admired on the scene today. He is a highly respected professor at Berklee College of Music, where he continues the proud drum tradition founded by his own teacher, Alan Dawson.

Mathias Landæus og Jesper Løvdal met each other 20 years ago in New York and this CD is the first documentation of their music together. The expression is extremely varied and present in the moment. Playing for the ensemble is first priority and there is no holding back. This is 100 percent honest music.
