After working in Perth for almost ten years as a sideman, bassist Wayne Slater is proud to present his first jazz ensemble project as bandleader.
Hailing from Geelong, Wayne moved to WA to study music and graduated from WAAPA in 2006. He has since worked as a freelance bassist in many different bands around Perth; playing everything from Rock and Country to Trad Jazz and Soul. Whilst he enjoys playing a wide variety of styles, his passion has always been jazz and he particularly values his work with the Mace Francis Orchestra (MFO).
Through working with MFO, Perth’s premier original big band, Wayne has developed a profound respect for the art of composing. Drawing inspiration from his musical journeys with MFO, he recently recorded an album of original music that reflects his diverse tastes; including Booker T & The MGs, Medeski Martin Scofield & Wood and Soulive to name a few.
Tonight’s performance will feature the music from Wayne’s album and a special guest support act. He will be joined on stage by Harry Winton on guitar, Gabriel Fatin on keyboard and Greg Brenton on drums.
