Pignon / Nebbia / Kleykens / Filip "Giravoltant els espaïs lliures" (December 2021 ears & eyes Records)

The quartet was formed by British Paul Pignon on saxophone, clarinets, and voice, Argentine Camila Nebbia on tenor saxophone, Spanish Carmen Kleykens on cello and voice, and Argentine Axel Filip on drums met and recorded in Stockholm, Sweden during 2021. Nebbia and Filip met the legendary reed player and improviser Pignon on several occasions for playing sessions of free improvised music when Nebbia was based in Stockholm, soon after they completed the quartet with Kleykens. “Giravoltant els espaïs lliures” in Catalan means “Turning empty spaces around” reflects the creation of a unique and personal world full of boundless and fearless experimentation, where the interaction between musicians is powerful and enlightening.

(December 19, 2021 EUPHORIUM Records)

Bambule! was originally released in 2021 as a CD. You can buy it HERE

Again, Peter Brötzmann meets Oliver Schwerdt and Christian Lillinger, the most powerful youngsters of German Free Jazz culture. After 2017s Karacho! we now have the quintet with the unsurpassable Johns as it worked out that brilliant night of 2019! Edwards and Eckhardt did a warm up as a duett dedicated to the most beautiful legs on earth. Peter Brötzmann just know what sexuality has to do with the energy this group deals with! Listen also to the 15-minute-trio-interaction called Hot Ass!

---

01 Bambule! (37’04)
02 Bambule Again! (13’21)

Peter Brötzmann - tenor saxophone, clarinet, tarogato
Oliver Schwerdt - grand piano, percussion, little instruments
John Edwards - double bass

Big Bad Brötzmann Trio / John Edwards & John Eckhardt - Hot Ass / Beauty Legs (December 19, 2021 EUPHORIUM Records)

Hot Ass/Beauty Legs was originally released in 2021 as a mini CD. You can buy it HERE

Biturbo!, the paradisian debut of the legendary instrumental constellation of saxophone, piano and drums as Peter Brötzmann celebrate it with these powerful German youngsters is highlighted by that performance these three realized two years later. Hot Ass is a fulminant trio action bringing all together for an outstanding explosion of musical interaction: the wisdom and strength of an all-time hero as Peter Brötzmann in dance with the velocity and extremly young fighting of Oliver Schwerdt (formerly known as Elan Pauer) and Christian Lillinger. Get that kick to the ultimate jazz ecstasy. Beauty Legs is called the first duet of the marvelous double bass players both called John, Edwards here, Eckhardt there..

2. Beauty Legs 08:56

Alex Riel / Bo Stief / Carsten Dahl – Our Songs (Storyville Records)

Always curious and always looking for new challenges, Alex Riel has been an important innovator of modern drumming in Europe. He was among the very first to record a “free” solo on his debut album in 1965 and he was a founding member of the beat-group Savage Rose, while also playing with Bill Evans, Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon and being a member of Monica Zetterlund’s quartet. From the last 20 years we know him for his work with Enrico Pieranunzi, Kenny Werner, Mads Vinding and many others.

On “Our Songs”, Alex Riel brings together two musical “playmates”: The legendary bassist Bo Stief, who like Riel, belongs to the generation of Danish musicians who started their professional careers at Montmartre in the 60s, and Carsten Dahl, one of Europe’s most innovative piano players.

The trio plays in balance with themselves and each other, and simply lets the music flow unhindered. So where, then, does the music flow? Basically, this is classic piano-trio jazz, and while Carsten Dahl is “in charge”, he never overshadows the trio’s creative affinity. Quite appropriately, the mood is established with, “My Song” a classic Keith Jarrett number. In many ways Riel’s playing is discreet, often poetic, so it’s fitting that Dahl has dedicated his composition for the album, “The Poet” to Alex. We are also treated to a couple of melancholic Swedish folk songs reminiscent of legendary pianist Jan Johansson, plus the trio’s own folklore-inspired “Høstdansen” (“Harvest Dance”). Along the way there are also four freshly interpreted American jazz standards, including John Coltrane’s “Giant Steps” as a lyrical ballad - in direct contrast to the high-powered original version.

The personal and musical friendship of the three musicians is obvious. It's playful, creative and beautiful when Alex Riel, Bo Stief and Carsten Dahl play their songs.

Nick Altieri (feat. George Garzone) - The Journey (December 11, 2021)

I’m a saxophonist, a jazz musician, and a storyteller. The music I create is that which honors the music of the past and the rich history of this genre, and of the storytellers before me. But, like those before me, I look to the future for inspiration as well as the present. I believe that as an artist I’m a record keeper as well, allowing my music to serve as evidence of the world around me. I hope to impact the lives of others in a positive way and create music that outlasts me.

Playing the saxophone and creating music has been the common thread throughout my life. I find myself constantly coming back to music no matter where life has taken me. As I grow older, I understand the deep and powerful role music plays in our daily lives. I believe that it’s my job as a musician to relate my music to the world around me and to inspire others to experience life with my music as their soundtrack.
