Ilkka Arola - From the Depths of the Earth (2017)


Ilkka Arola (b. 1988) is a Finnish trumpet player. Besides playing his special Quartertone trumpet, flugelhorn, percussion and many other instruments, he works as a teacher, composer and an arranger, and performs regularly with variety of groups. Ilkka Arola loves to improvise and interact with other musicians. His background is in jazz music but he draws inspiration from all kind of music styles, like Arabic maqam tradition and Indian rhythm solfage for example. Ilkka Arola completed his Master studies in Aarhus, Denmark in 2016 (The Nordic Master of Global Music). Before that he studied pop and jazz music and pedagogics in Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory and Helsinki Metropolia the University of Applied Sciences.

Ilkka Arola sees himself as a very visual person and that can be heard also in his way of playing and composing music. He finds simple but meaningful melodies, strong rhythms and interesting soundscapes the most important elements in his music. Ilkka likes to travel and experience different cultures of the world, which has given a lot of inspiration to his music. His first full length album "From the Depths of the Earth" will be released in spring 2017.
