Calle Rasmusson - One (PROPHONE RECORDS 2017)

One is the result of two different projects: The Roots Project, which was commissioned by the province of Halland, Sweden, was written by Calle for a ten- piece ensemble that consisting of musicians with a close relationship to that region. The group did a tour in January 2015 under Calle’s musical direction. The Orchestra Project was meant to combine the freedom of a jazz piano trio with the rich textures of a chamber orchestra. Based on a trio recording with Swedish pianist Adam Forkelid and bassist Kristian Lind, Calle wrote arrangements and new music for chamber orchestra to be added on top of the original trio recording. The orchestra is one of Calle’s favorite ensembles in Sweden – DalaSinfoniettan. I’ve always been fascinated by the freedom of playing in a trio setting. For me, it’s the perfect sized group if you as a musician want to create and shape the music in the moment. At the same time I’m very fascinated by the sound and the energy that only a large ensemble can produce. The purpose of this project was to combine the playfulness of the trio with the many textures of the orchestra.

Luigi Mangiocavallo (Mangiocavallo Project) - The Dark Side of the Trio (2017)

The CD collects original compositions by Cesare Mangiocavallo and Luigi Mangiocavallo. Cesare began composing his pieces since he was 14 and continued until now.

After a collaboration with the great bassist Pietro Ciancaglini we decided to rearrange and assort a part of our compositions in this CD. As a result we have a quite eclectic set of pieces, showing different configurations of the jazz trio and ranging between various styles.

Overdubbing allowed Luigi playing violin on tracks 5, violin and viola on track 9 and Cesare playing vibraphone on track 9.

Sinne Eeg - Dreams (SUNDANCE MUSIC 2017)

DREAMS is Eeg’s ninth CD as a leader. Her last CD, the critically acclaimed and award-winning Eeg-Fonnesbæk, a duo project fea- turing only vocals and bass, was her first album distributed in the U.S. On DREAMS, she’s once again joined by her longtime collaborator Christoffersen, with the rest of the ensemble comprising some of the most respected names on the U.S. jazz scene today. Eeg first met drum- mer Joey Baron, who has played with a Who’s Who of jazz greats, when he gave a master class at The Danish National Academy of Music in 2002. Larry Koonse is a widely respected L.A.-based guitarist whom Eeg met on a gig in Japan around five years ago. The two beca- me friends and musical compatriots, and Eeg has since performed with him numerous times in Europe and Asia, as well as around the States.

Eeg was thrilled to have Scott Colley in the band. She has been a fan of the bassist for many years. Not only has he been a sideman with many well-known headliners, he’s also childhood friends with Koonse. According to Eeg, “It’s important to perform with great musicians, but it’s also important to perform with people you genuinely like. I find it essential to have a good rapport with the band, as I do with the guys on this CD. Musicians can have a lot of ego, which can make the music suffer, but when you genuinely like each other, it’s easier to listen to one another as co-equals. You can drop your ego, immerse yourself in the song, and allow the music to speak through you. It’s almost like meditating.”

Kim Simmonds - Jazzin’ on the Blues (2017)

"Jazzin' On The Blues" is guitarist Kim Simmonds' fifth solo album release. Known as the founder and continuing leader of the legendary blues/ rock band Savoy Brown and with a star on the Rock Walk of Fame, Simmonds is recognized globally as one of the world's finest guitar players. He is also known as one of the very first musicians from the UK to re-invent the blues in the mid-sixties (post-The Rolling Stones) with music that continues to be an influence today. Simmonds' solo efforts have all been acoustic in nature with material ranging between country blues songs and Americana roots music. On "Jazzin' On The Blues", however, Simmonds shows off his acoustic playing with a beautiful mix of jazz, blues and a new age style....twelve instrumentals played with the assurance and mastery of a virtuoso guitar player. Never has the audience heard Kim in this context and "Jazzin' On The Blues" promises to be a release that will open the eyes of many people, in a different way, to the guitarist's magical playing and writing.

YU Ying Hsu (feat. Alex Sipiagin ／ Donny McCaslin ／ Boris Kozlov ／ Donald Edward) - Happenes, Happening 現在 (2017)

New York City, such as Birdland, Sweet Rhythm, and with renowned musicians like legendary jazz drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath, Alex Sipiagin, Michael Philip Mossman, Antonio Hart, Giuseppe Bassi, Gegè Telesforo, and the complete violinist Benjamin Schmid. For this album she is joined with Alex Sipiagin, Donny McCaslin, Donald Edwards and Boris Kozlov.

Her debut album “Untitled” won two Golden Indie Music Awards, which is Taiwan’s version of the Grammy, for “Best Jazz Album” and “Best Jazz Single” in 2011. Two years later, her second album "sentimotional", which featured trumpet virtuoso Alex Sipiagin on three songs, again garnered two Golden Indie Music Awards for "Best Musician" and "Best Jazz Single”. YuYing has a Master of Music degree from Purchase College, State University of New York, and studied with piano masters such as Gerard D'Angelo, Hal Galper, Arturo O'Farrill, Charles Blenzig, and Sam Yahel. Her thesis focused on jazz piano legend Keith Jarrett and his style of improvision in piano trio and solo in the late 1960s and 1970s. Since YuYing relocated back to Taiwan in 2010, she has performed in major music festivals such as Shanghai Jazz Festival, Taichung Jazz Festival, and Summer Jazz Party held by the National Theater Concert Hall. She has also held her own concerts, workshops, and performed at various jazz venues around Taiwan.

An avid listener of jazz music, YuYing seeks to fuse improvisation with her own life experience. She takes inspirations, thoughts of her travels, her love of artists such as Francis Bacon and Yayoi Kusama, and turns them into musical notes that bounce off the pages, as heard in her original, award-winning pieces “Twisted One” and “Anything Can Happen on a Sunny Afternoon.” Through her music, YuYing hopes to share her emotions, passions, and love of life with jazz aficionados around the world, one performance at a time.
