Award winning pianist from Norway specializing in classical music and Argentine tango. Concert experience in USA, Argentina, Germany, Sweden and Norway. Professional pianist, chamber musician, accompanist, teacher, arranger and composer. Lives in Trondheim, Norway.

A performer of tango music I have always been fascinated by the unique sound of the bandoneón and how the instrument is used in solo arrangements and compositions. Performing together with bandoneón players and writing for the instrument as an arranger/composer has inspired me to adapt some of the techniques and interpretational aspects into my own piano playing. Iwanted to see if I could incorporate the multilayered, flowing and improvisational manner of playing - constantly changing focus be- tween the bass, chords, and melodic structures, rather than trying do all at once as often as possible like an orchestral reduction. This approach can be heard throughout the album and is taken to the extreme in El Marne, which is a bandoneón arrangement adapted for the piano. The melting point is the tribute composition “Tristezas de un doble S” where Piazzolla’s «Alfred Arnold» bandoneón is replaced by the «Steinway and Sons».

Chelsea Lee (feat. Will Vinson) - Midnight Cowboy (June 13, 2018)

This record was not born to be perfect. Here it lies; a vulnerable representation of impurity and emotion one embraces through melancholy.

As artists, we tend to struggle with heightened levels of emotion and sorrow, whilst creating artwork to best display our state of mind and heartache against the scrutiny of others. Nothing is meant to be completely perfect, yet we are expected to mask our flaws and present a golden set of morals. This album is an open window into my mind.

Each composition exposes a vein of relentless heartbreak, paired with a sound of both darkness and susceptibility. Thom Yorke once spoke, 'I cannot write what I do not know', and that is something I completely agree with.

'MIDNIGHT COWBOY' inhabits an outlaw personality, which follows no rules.

Lynne Arriale Trio - Give Us These Days (CHALLENGE RECORDS 2018)

Lynne Arriale is known for her style: lively, but still lyrical and intimate. She connects with her audience and tells her stories through emotionally charged performances. She released her 14th album as ensemble leader this June, with her first recording on Challenge Records.

Give Us These Days marks a new course for Arriale and her trio: six original tunes and three arrangements speak directly to the heart, and reflect upon the nature of existence. What emerges is the theme of this record, brilliantly illuminated by the title track: given the unpredictability and impermanence of life, savor each moment.

The album features renowned Dutch musicians like bassist Jasper Somsen, known for his signature sound, feel and lyricism, and drummer Jasper van Hulten, who brings boosts the group’s energy with his drums. With a cameo performance from vocalist Kate McGarry, in Take it With Me, combined with Arriale’s narrative piano playing, the song’s message of humility and gratitude is conveyed perfectly.

The Lynne Arriale Trio will be performing a unique show in The Netherlands on June 7th in the Catharinakapel in Harderwijk. Tickets and more information are available on the venue’s website.

Filipe Teixeira Trio

The Nada
