Grammy nominated Juilliard grads Dave, Dan, and Dag recorded Storytime in Dave’s small Brooklyn apt - three musiceteers creating quirky and clever snapshots of tunes from yesteryear (along with a couple of Linard's soon-to-be-classic original compositions) with the immediacy of today.
Storytime features Dave Linard on his beloved Sohmer upright, the same piano that has traveled with him all over the city, the multitalented Dan Stein on upright bass (who also engineered, mixed and mastered the spontaneous soirée), and Dag Markhus, who slyly eschewed sticks and cymbals in favor of brushes on a snare.
The intimate, homebound setting for these recordings proved prescient, as in the past few years we've seen bedrooms become parlors, kitchens turned bars, and gardens transformed into festivals. "Storytime" celebrates the humble get-together with joyous abandon, a rediscovery of not just terrific songs, but also of how damn entertaining our friends can be.
