In this recording produced for the inaugural Downtown Jazz Sessions series in June 2017 in downtown Johannesburg, pianist, arranger, composer and Jazz educator Andre Petersen leads his own quartet to a sublime performance. Downtown Jazz Sessions was a 13 episode series produced in 2017 for South African TV channel Mzansi Magic, and showcasing some of the most exciting talents on the South African jazz scene. The recording demonstrates, if need be, the entire palette of talent that Andre had acquired over the years through his rigorous classical and jazz training, and through his constant, generous and curious exposure to a variety of music genres in South Africa and around the world. It is a beautiful reminder of the type of performer the world of Jazz has lost but we are grateful that, through his music, Andre Petersen Lives!
