“Somewhere in the middle” is the title of the third album of original music by this London based contemporary jazz band.

It embodies an idea which naturally spilt from this music where the audience meet the musicians in a symbiotic middle plane of mutual stimulation.

With a variety of influences from “Vijay Iyer” to “Queens of the stone age”, this compositions are carefully thought to fulfil a mixed bag of particular tastes of a refined but diverse audience whilst at the same time they offer excellent platforms for the musicians to shape and bend the music as they please and feel on the moment.

Being it a thrill for head-banging guitar riffs or the complexity of contrapuntal interweaving melodic lines, this music will induce a comprehensive and contrasting journey.

We live in a polarised world today, both musically and socially and although the fringes can be very trending, this album tends to sit on the idea that there’s plenty of space to be innovative and unique when you navigate in the middle.

The choice of musicians was equally important. All of them are extremely open and versatile musicians which understand the music very well and naturally take a lot of liberties both on the written and improvised material.

This is essential for the music to have the elastic and organic sound it has as well as to produce the cohesive nature of this album’s idea.

Vitor Pereira

Vitor Pereira was born in Porto/Portugal where he studied mainly classical music and classical guitar.
His interest in Jazz took him to participate in seminars and private lessons with the likes of Pat Metheny, Jonathan Kreisberg, Gilad Hekselman or Aaron Goldberg to name a few and ultimately led him to London in 2004 to study at the “Middlesex University”.

Living in London since then he is an active name in the UK and Europe playing with names like: James Allsopp, Asaf Sirkis, Josh Arcoleo, Binker Goldings, Marc Demuth, etc…

Leading his quintet, Vitor has published two albums and had several radio plays, interviews and numerous performances across Europe like the “Portajazz festival” in Porto.

Distinguindo-se pelo som único e energético a sua música revela um vasto leque de influências desde riff’s de rock até ao toque minimalista da música clássica contemporânea. A força das composições e o talento de alguns dos músicos mais proeminentes do jazz Português combinam-se aqui num som sedutor e original capaz de captar a atenção do ouvinte mais relutante.

Vitor Pereira nasceu no Porto, cidade onde estudou música e guitarra clássica e onde desenvolveu o gosto pelo Jazz.

O seu interesse pelo Jazz levou-o a participar em vários seminários e aulas privadas com figuras do Jazz internacional como Pat Metheny, Jonathan Kreisberg, Gilad Hekselman ou Aaron Goldberg e a mudar-se para Londres após ser aceite pela Middlesex University em 2004 onde concluiu uma licenciatura em Jazz performance.

Desde então a viver em Londres, tem sido um nome activo na cena Jazzística Inglesa, Portuguesa e Europeia colaborando com nomes como Asaf Sirkis, Marc Demuth, James Allsopp, Josh Arcoleo, Binker Goldings, etc…

The Whole Time é um coletivo dedicado à arte da improvisação vocal, sediado em Nova Iorque, que apresenta concertos a cappella inteiramente improvisados. Criam temas espontâneos, combinando beatboxing, humor, movimento e rapping em múltiplos idiomas (inglês, espanhol, português e dialetos inventados). Em cada concerto são criadas dinâmicas distintas e imprevisíveis, onde a magia do momento se revela, havendo uma frequente interação com o público.

Rizumik, vencedor do campeonato americano de beatbox de 2012, que ensina ao lado de Bobby McFerrin no Instituto Omega; Nick Demeris, orador TEDx e artista residente no Carnegie Hall; e Sofia Ribeiro, com nove discos editados e vencedora de vários prémios internacionais de jazz vocal, convidam-nos para uma viagem única de paisagens sonoras e criações surpreendentes.

This exciting and energetic band is on the road to present their most recent album “New World”.

Its strong and unique sound has captivated the interest of the Jazz community who described them as “intriguing” or “innovative” and drew comparison to artists like “Led Bib” or “Trio VD”. From catchy rock-like riffs to more quiet and mesmerising atmospheres they cover a full spectrum of textures unveiling a vast background of musical influences and leading the listener through a very diverse and “bumpy” journey. They jumped into international recognition in 2012 with the release of their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Doors’. Based in London, this acclaimed quintet has been packing up venues all over Europe and the UK.

The history of this band goes back to 2009. Initially as a quartet they have been focusing mainly on original music, experimenting through a broad range of aesthetics as well as band members and culminating in the full grown and conceptually strong band it is today.

Despite its obvious Jazz roots, this music unveils a vast background of musical influences where energetic and catchy riffs together with hints of classical and world music create here an extremely unique and dynamic sound capable of captivating even the most reluctant listener.

They jumped into international recognition in 2012 with the release of its debut album ‘Doors’ on ‘F-IRE Presents’, which has drawn great reviews.

The Quintet’s second album “New World” is due to be released in March 2016 also on “F-IRE Presents”.

With a successful performance history and the talent of some of the most prominent and award winning musicians in the UK, this quintet is soon becoming one of the most promising contemporary jazz bands of the moment.
