Seattle trumpeter Jared Hall presents his second recording as a leader and debut on Origin Records - an exciting program featuring original compositions & classics by Tadd Dameron. Along with alto saxophonist Vincent Herring, and his Seattle-based rhythm section of pianist John Hansen, bassist Michael Glynn, and drummer Matt Jorgensen, Hall explores a variety of moods and topics. "Thinker" is full of jovial curiosity in honor of the birth of his son, "Seen on the Scene" is urgent & urban, and Francis Lai's "Theme from Love Story" is rich with romantic poignancy. On Dameron's compositions, Jorgensen's drums propel Vincent Herring's soaring solo on "Mating Call," while Hall pairs with pianist John Hansen for an intimate reading of "If You Could See Me Now." Since moving to Seattle in 2015 after receiving his DMA from Miami's Frost School of Music, Hall has been a dynamic addition to the scene while expanding his international reach through education and performances.

Matt Jorgensen - Tattooed by Passion: Music inspired by the paintings of Dale Chisman (April 2021)

Inspired by the paintings of his late father-in-law, the prominent abstract-impressionist artist Dale Chisman, drummer Matt Jorgensen has created a recording of all original works drawing influence directly from Chisman paintings, his home city of Denver, his life-long friends, and his constant reinvention as an artist. To properly reflect the power and expanse of Chisman's pieces, Jorgensen, along with his longtime collaborators - trumpeter Thomas Marriott and saxophonist Mark Taylor - expands his own palette from previous recordings, exploring broad new textures and musical landscapes aided by Corey Christiansen's earthy guitar work, bassist Dave Captein, and orchestrations for string quartet.

Chamber 3: Christian Eckert / Steffen Weber / Matt Jorgensen - Transatlantic (ORIGIN RECORDS 2018)

Chamber 3 is an ongoing international collaboration between Seattle drummer Matt Jorgensen and guitarist Christian Eckert and saxophonist Steffen Weber from Germany. Since meeting in New York at the New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in the early '90s, Jorgensen and Eckert have continued their musical relationship through the years with multiple projects, including the organ trio NY3 and tours in the U.S. and Europe. Adding Steffen Weber's dynamic musical voice in 2014, the trio convenes in Southern Germany or the U.S. for explorations through compositions and musical sketches that highlight their mesmerizing group aesthetic. Seattle bassist Phil Sparks joins the trio on "Tranatlantic," a collection of ten originals plus a Weber arrangement of the classic "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Pinocchio.

With a nod to the fabled trumpet duo sessions of Fats Navarro & Howard McGhee, and Freddie Hubbard & Woody Shaw, trumpeters Ray Vega and Thomas Marriott's fiery 2010 quintet release "East-West Trumpet Summit," hit #1 on the jazz charts and established the group through their festival and club appearances. Returning to the studio, the two are joined this time by George Colligan on Hammond B-3 Organ and again by drummer Matt Jorgensen as they explore a collection of originals, standards and jazz classics. Included are Wayne Shorter's "United," "Totem Pole" by Lee Morgan, and for the opener they borrow Curtis Fuller's "The Egyptian," also the lead off to Art Blakey's 1966 classic, "Indestructible."
