Albert Cirera & Kamarilla - Aquella Cosa (March 2022 UnderPool)

Albert Cirera is one of the most prominent saxophonists of his generation; essential for understanding the current jazz scene and one of the greatest exponents of improvisation in the last decade in Catalonia.

He has managed to develop a solid trajectory both at home and abroad which has enabled him to perform in different international scenes.

On Aquella Cosa, Cirera puts together a collection of his originals and gives them new life with this septet. The complicity they share enables them to construct a language comprising melodies, grooves, and improvisation, along with experimentation with sound, texture and form.

Albert Cirera is a mature musician; capable of expressing himself comfortably in any of the musical registers he has tackled; demonstrating that music is not so much a question of style as it is of experience.

Albert Cirera and Kamarilla make music in its purest form. Aquella Cosa will make you laugh, dance ,breathe, and live!

Barcelona Art Orchestra - Ragtime Stories (February 2022 UnderPool)

Lluc Casares, Joan Vidal, Néstor Giménez and Lluís Vidal, four of our most important arrangers and composers, took on the challenges currently facing the performing arts with this new and ambitious project BARCELONA ART ORCHESTRA whose first album is entitled Ragtime Stories.

Ragtime is the common denominator that ties together the eight pieces that make up this album. This timeless music is revisited with arrangements that range from the purely traditional to the avant garde. They serve as a showcase for the talent and versatility of the four composers/arrangers that lead this project.

BARCELONA ART ORCHESTRA is a stable formation made up of a large number of exceptional musicians featuring jazz instrumentation as well as classical and contemporary.

BAO embodies the will to explore different musical genres from a jazz perspective, in search of new relationships with other artistic disciplines such as theatre, danse, or poetry.

Ragtime Stories is possible thanks to the complicity of this group of musicians and composers who have consolidated this project with the release of this first album which will doubtlessly see BARCELONA ART ORCHESTRA become an important reference point for the current scene.

Clara Lai - Creciente (January 2022 UnderPool)

This work on the compositional process informs the creator's musical universe. Over the years she has worked continuously to consolidate her own uninhibited voice, which in turn has considerably enriched the current musical panorama.

The album strikes a balance between improvisation and composition; featuring the musical voices of Albert Cirera, Iván Gonzalez, and Joan Moll who contribute their own personal traits to the whole; resulting in a unified abstract vision that is captivating for the listener.

Clara Lai's music becomes a mirror in which one recognizes one's own emotions, and where contemporary forms reveal new unsuspected horizons..

Dani Perez trio + Benet Palet - Contrafacts (December 2021 UnderPool)

An irrefutable reference point on the current scene, Dani Pérez takes up this new project on the heels of his prior success Resumen. On this new release, he makes full use of his talent, irony and sense of humour to turn these compositional games called contrafacts into energetic compositions that display the richness of the group’s language.

The addition of Benett Pelet on trumpet and Txema Riera on Rhodes (on tracks 4 and 7) for this album, brings new textures to Dani Perez’s music, without losing the essential qualities that characterise this group’s long trajectory.

This album transmits complicity and emotions; it was recorded live at underpool studios by Sergi Felipe. It reflects the personality traits of the guitarist, composer and educator who has never ceased to forge an outstanding trajectory.

Contrafacts is available on a carefully prepared vinyl edition with cover art by Pedro Stukelj and liner notes by journalist Josep Mestres.

“Dani Perez is a fountain of ideas; a mastermind of routes and short cuts that would have never occurred to us, a crafter of apparently simple phrases which are imbued with an implicit immenseness. If contrafacts didn’t already exist, he would have invented them. Definitely.”

Martín Leiton - Desde a Bajo (June 2021 UnderPool)

The music heard on Desde a Bajo shows us Martín Leiton’s highly personal vision of jazz; the product of his experience and influences, where groove is a prominent feature.

Leiton is a highly active musician who has flourished not only in a strictly jazz context, but also in pop, experimental music, and traditional music. All this goes to make him one of the most complete bassists on the contemporary scene.

On Desde a Bajo, Leiton enjoys the complicity of the drummer Jorge Rossy, for whom he feels a deep admiration. Rossy is an absolute reference for many musicians of his generation and Leiton has had the chance to perform with him on different occasions. Along with Rossy come saxophonist Santi de la Rubia and pianist Toni Saigi; two of the most prominent players on the current scene that round out this quartet, which Leiton has used to document his experience as a double bassist and composer.

UNDP Collective -Esto Sí Se Llama Querer (2021 UnderPool)

Similar to the function Smalls played in the New York City jazz community, Underpool has been rehearsal space, record label, social center, and second home to Barcelona’s jazz community. Esto Sí Se Llama Querer marks the label portion’s 50th release. Reflecting the familial relationship the musicians have to the venue—and one another—an astounding 64 musicians contribute to this recording. Àlex Cassanyes - Composició II (April 2021 UnderPool)

Composició II is a concept album that revolves around the idea of art as a refuge. Cassanyes has drawn inspiration from different art forms such as painting, literature and sculpture and each of the new compositions that make up the album, many of which were composed during the lockdown, have been inspired by works by artists such as Alfred Sisley, Enrique Vila Matas, Ernest Hemingway or Jaume Plensa, all of whom Cassanyes deeply admires.

The delicate melodies and the carefully constructed arrangements, written for a nonet made up of some of the most highly regarded local musicians, confirm that we are in the presence of one of the composers with greatest potential on the current scene.

Àlex Cassanyes describes life through music, using his art as a means of communication to transmit the emotions that are essential for our well being.

UNDP COLLECTIVE - Underpool 5 Vol.II (March 2021 Underpool)

The second volume of Underpool 5 has arrived.

UnderPool presents the second volume of the collective linked to the label. Underpool 5 is made up of four exceptional musicians; saxophonist Gorka Benítez, pianist Roger Mas, double bassist Martín Leiton, and drummer Ramon Prats.

After the acclaim for their first disk and following a long tour, the group decided to return to the studio to record the material that makes up this second volume. The objective was to document the evolution that the quartet has undergone, achieving a sound based on the equilibrium of each of the four individual elements, and their capacity to generate a unique sound and language resulting in a distinct, immediately recognisable musical personality.

As on the former disk, each of the members of the group has provided their own original compositions which make up the material for this album, which was recorded at the UnderPool Studio.

Once again these four giants of the national jazz scene have demonstrated their quality in interpreting this deeply moving and yet uncompromising.

Albert Cirera & Tres Tambors - Suite Salada (UNDERPOOL 2017)

After the first album "Els Encants" (FSNT, 2012) Albert Cirera & Tres Tambors presents his second album, "Suite Salada" (UnderPool, 2017). A work that expands a little more the frontiers of this group towards freer and deeper ways, but still being the most lyrical project of Cirera. A work that shows, once again, the connection between these four musicians, linking in 50 minutes of music, soundscapes, melodies, interludes and improvisations, full of energy, character and surprise.

Always with the infinite nuances of the word beauty, and the collective journey as a point of reference, these four musicians play with music proposed by Cirera as four children having fun on some beach in Menorca, an island that inspires Cirera to give light to this idea For years I was after.

Guitarrist Dani Pérez has published "Resumen" (underpool, 2016), his third recording as band leader, accompanied by his customary trio, made up by the well known bassist and drummer, David Mengual and David Xirgu.

The seven compositons that comprise the body of work of "Resumen" are born of the guitarrist's most intimate life experiences, desires and yearnings. Dani Perez uses his music to describe the universe that surrounds him. It is the soundtrack that he would like to be listening to, where he shows us the power of his musical expresion that is so admired by his fans.

Mengual and Xirgu, also driving forces behind this musical venture, demonstrate their complicity and become perfect partners in conversation, turning the music of this trio into a reference for an entire generation of musicians.

"Resumen" was recorded live at Robadors23 by Jordi Matas, the fourth element in the project, as Dani Pérez himself has stated.
