Stefan Aeby Trio - Fairy Circus (February 11, 2022 music today)

The fifth album of this longtime working band, recorded at a piano-tuner's workshop in Liestal, Switzerland, in August 2021.

Playing the first concerts after a loooong time, the trio worked on the new repertoire during a week long Résidence at 'Live in Vevey' in spring 2021. A couple of concerts and months later, they invited Sound Wizzard Tobias Stritt to record them in a live setting at René Waldhauser's Klavierwerkstatt.

The album was mixed and mastered at bassist André Pousaz' Pousaz Sound Lab beginning of 2022.

Stefan Aeby Trio - The London Concert (INTAKT RECORDS 2018)

The concert of The Stefan Aeby Trio at the Intakt Festival at Vortex Jazz Club in London 2017 was a highlight of live music in the capital that year.

It made an emphatic statement on how improvisation transcends borders and underlined the strength of a new generation of players. London journalist Kevin le genre writes: "Aeby, drummer Michi Stulz and double bassist André Pousaz make for an inherently contemporary proposition insofar as they are by no means restricted to the standard tropes of the piano trio. This is a group comprising three instruments and three open minds. hence the performance sees the players organically shift the ensemble towards many stylistic areas, whether it is a suggestion of wistful ambient soundscapes, breezy, percussive African folk, or modern pop that retains the blues to varying degrees. The music is multi-faceted.

Throughout the concert there is a palpable sense of breathing space as well as controlled intensity. A quiet fire. The lasting impression of this concert is precisely the cohesion and dynamics of the trio, with its skillful straddling of natural and digital tones, and its deft negotiation of sounds past, present and future."

Sarah Buechi - Contradiction of Happiness (INTAKT RECORDS 2108)

After Flying Letters and Shadow Garden, Sarah Buechi is releasing her third album on Intakt Records, Contradiction of Happiness. She has seized the opportunity to take her music in a new direction, and has augmented her superb quartet – with pianist Stefan Aeby, bassist André Pousaz and drummer Lionel Friedli – with the addition of three string players.

"The results are extremely convincing." writes Manfred Papst in the liner notes. "She demonstrates once again that her compositions are far more than run-of-the mill songs with verses, rhymes and a chorus. They are ingeniously structured mini-dramas in which complex stories are told in a confined space. They are poetically dense, with vocal beauty and an enormous spectrum of expression. Their music is sophisticated, thoughtful, but also very sensual. The wonderful ‘After We’ve Kissed’ on the new album is the best example of this.“
